TEXTE 5 : THE CAT AND THE DOG

The dog and the cat met one day, and became good friend. What about going hunting? Suggested the dog. Good idea! Replied the cat, but as I am smaller than you, you'll have to help me. They went off across the fiels, and after several hours came across an ox grazing in a meadow. The dog attacked first, jumping at his throat, but the ox did not give up easily. He kicked out and tossed with his horns, but the clever dog ran around him, nipping, with his teeth. The cat, meanwhile, scratched with his claws, one moment at the ox's legs, and now at his eyes. The fight went on for a long time. Tiring, the ox unluckily fell into a hole and could not get up. Taking advantage of this, the dog and the cat finished him off, and gorged themseves on the fresh meat. Full up, the cat suggested that they should hang the rest of the meat from a high branch, to protect it from other animals who might try to steal it. They set to work, the dog cutting the carcass up into pieces,while the cat took them up to the branch when they were ready. When the work was done, the cat stayed up there, sitting on the branch, and fell asleep. Next morning, the dog asked him for a small piece of meat for breakfast, the cat refused, and went on refusing for the next few days. Eventually the dog had to go off hunting again, because he was very hungry,but he swore eternal hatred against the cat. And ever since that day, the dog has never been able to see the cat without attacking him.

Le chien et le chat se sont rencontrés un jour et sont devenus bons amis. Et si vous alliez à la chasse ? Suggéra le chien.Bonne idée! Le chien a attaqué d'abord, lui sautant à la gorge, mais le bœuf n'a pas abandonné facilement. Il a donné un coup de pied et a lancé avec ses cornes, mais le chien intelligent courut autour de lui, mordillant, avec ses dents. Le chat, quant à lui, grattait avec ses griffes, un instant les pattes du bœuf, et maintenant ses yeux. Le combat a continué pendant longtemps. Fatiguant, le bœuf est malheureusement tombé dans un trou et ne pouvait pas se lever. Profitant de cela, le chien et le chat l'acheva et se gorga de la viande fraîche. Plein, le chat a suggéré qu'ils devraient accrocher le reste de la viande d'une branche haute, pour la protéger des autres animaux qui pourraient essayer de le voler. Ils se mettent au travail, le chien coupant la carcasse en morceaux, tandis que le chat les a emmenés à la succursale quand ils étaient prêts. Quand le travail était fait, le chat est resté là-haut, assis sur la branche, et s'endormit. Le lendemain matin, le chien lui a demandé un petit morceau de viande pour le petit déjeuner, le chat refusa et continua refusant pour les prochains jours. Finalement, le chien a dû repartir à la chasse, car il avait très faim, mais il jura une haine éternelle contre le chat. Et depuis ce jour, le chien n'a jamais pu voir le chat sans l'attaquer.
